AetherWorks LLC is a software engineering, research & development firm based in New York City.
We are primarily concerned with the research and development of distributed software systems that reduce costs for organizations by more efficiently making use of existing infrastructure. More generally, AetherWorks is engaged in the commercialization of promising intellectual property assets.
AetherWorks will also periodically provide retail software engineering and consulting services to industry clients, including promising startups, looking for highly skilled technical and managerial support.
Who We Are
Dr. Robert F. MacInnis, Founder and CEO
Originally from Westport, CT, Robert received a B.Sc. Honours (First Class) in Computer Science from the University of St Andrews in 2005.
In tandem with ventures in online gaming software and location-based advertising, Robert successfully completed his post-graduate studies and was awarded his Ph.D. in 2010 for a thesis entitled “A Scalable Architecture for the Demand-driven Deployment of Location-neutral Software Services”.
Robert has since moved to New York City to start AetherWorks, together with Allan and Angus, and currently serves as a Member of the Board of Trustees of the University of St Andrews American Foundation.
Allan P. Boyd, Chief Operating Officer
Born in Glasgow, Scotland, Allan received a B.Sc. with Honours in Computer Science from the University of St Andrews in 2005. He won the SIE award for “Best Overall Business” in 2005, and sold his first company, ITOnsite, in 2007.
In 2008 Allan joined the management team at Kelvin Connect, a mobile data and information management software firm. After seeing the company through its acquisition by Airwave Solutions in 2011, Allan moved to New York to start AetherWorks with Robert and Angus. He remains an active investor in a number of ventures in the UK, most notably the Ingenium Academy.
Angus D. Macdonald, Director of Research
Born in Glasgow, Scotland, Angus received a B.Sc. Honours (First Class) in Computer Science from the University of St Andrews in 2007. During this time he collaborated on research on middleware systems, and was an award winner at the 2007 Scottish Young Software Engineer of the Year Awards for his work on Web Service Composition.
From 2007 to 2011 Angus undertook work towards a Ph.D. in autonomic, fault-tolerant distributed database systems, and is expecting to complete his thesis by the end of 2011. His work has primarily involved the design, development and evaluation of a workstation-based database system named H2O. In 2011, Angus moved to New York to start AetherWorks with Robert and Allan.
